Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri has apologized after a video of him and a woman in a compromising position went viral on social media on Tuesday evening April 24.

The Deputy Governor, in a statement, said that he is being set up. He says there are gangs targeting politicians for money.

"I am a victim of a well-designed criminal gang that set a trap for me. They were armed to the teeth and their target was to kill me but I pleaded with them to spare my life. I'm alive by the grace of God," he said.

Earlier, police spokesman Charles Owino said the police had not received any reports regarding the assault of the deputy governor.

"Police have not received any report concerning an alleged assault of the deputy governor of Kirinyaga County. Equally, the police spokesman has not issued any statement," he said.

There are several leaders including Gatundu South Member parliament Moses Kuria who condemned the video and asked Mr. Ndambiri to go to the police.

“I always say it is nonsensical to pay anyone so as not to give a story to the media. That breeds extortion and encourages criminal networks to thrive. It is a pity that the Kirinyaga DG did not immediately report such extortionists to the police,” said Moses Kuria.
