Statistics on road carnage in Kenya are horrific. More than 3,000 lives are lost every year on Kenyan roads.
Pedestrians are the most affected. Many of them rarely use foot bridges or zebra crossing.
A majority of motorbike riders are untrained and hardly wear helmets or reflective jackets. Even worse, they drive carelessly and recklessly in an endeavour to make a quick buck.
Drivers of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) are no exception. They rarely obey traffic rules, overload, speed and overlap with impunity. Others are infamous for rudeness and impertinence. PSV drivers are always in a hurry to nowhere.
Traffic police officers have worsened a bad situation because of their propensity for taking bribes.

It behoves the National Transport and Safety Authority to address this obnoxious problem of road carnage that has become a thorn in the flesh in this country.
