The appreciation followed the release of CNN’s latest investigative report, a project that Madowo says required painstaking work, courage from ordinary citizens, and an unwavering commitment to truth.

In a video shared shortly after the report aired, Madowo addressed Tanzanians directly, thanking them for their trust and collaboration.

“Ndugu watanzania, asanteni sana tena kwa jinsi mlivyo tusaidia kwa hii reporti yetu ya CNN ambayo imetoka hii leo,” he said, noting that the investigation took longer than expected because of its complexity.

He described it as one of the most challenging assignments he has undertaken, largely due to the heightened sensitivity of the events under scrutiny.

Madowo went on to detail the rigorous investigative work that unfolded behind the scenes.

“Imechukua muda kidogo kwa sababu ilikuwa kazi ngumu. Nimeshinda nikizungumza na Watanzania waliyonitumia mamia ya video, mapicha…” he revealed, explaining how ordinary citizens formed the backbone of the story.

Tanzanians submitted hundreds of videos, photos, and eyewitness accounts, offering evidence that helped shape the direction of the investigation.

To ensure accuracy and credibility, Madowo said he and his CNN colleagues applied multiple layers of verification. They conducted audio forensic analysis, reviewed satellite imagery, and cross-checked every detail using the tools available to them.

“Tuka tumia kila kifaa tunacho kuhakikisha kwamba tunasema ukweli ili dunia ijue kilichofanyika wakati wa uchaguzi na baada ya uchaguzi,” he said, stressing CNN’s commitment to presenting a factual account.

The report, now widely circulated across East Africa, has intensified public debate and attracted reactions from various quarters.

In response to the findings, the Tanzanian government announced that it would conduct its own investigations, signalling acknowledgement and mounting pressure to address the concerns raised.
