The Senate Labour and Social Welfare Committee, chaired by Senator Crystal Asige, has launched a rigorous investigation into the controversial Kazi Majuu overseas employment program following allegations of widespread fraud.

Hundreds of Kenyan job seekers have reportedly been duped by unregistered recruitment agencies, with some agencies still retaining victims' passports, exposing significant oversight failures by the National Employment Authority (NEA).

The probe, detailed in a post on X by Senator Asige earlier today, revealed that the NEA’s lax regulation allowed rogue agencies to exploit desperate Kenyans seeking opportunities abroad.

“National Employment Authority (NEA) claimed some agencies weren't registered, but that only raised more questions about NEA’s oversight. Agencies were grilled, some admitting to receiving money and still being in possession of applicant’s passports,” she posted.

Senator Asige, chairing the session, directed the establishment of a redress desk at the NSSF Building, Block C, 7th Floor, where victims can file complaints between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Critics have pointed fingers at Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, who spearheaded the Kazi Majuu initiative, demanding arrests rather than what they call “empty talk

“We’ve now ordered all recruitment agencies to document every case, follow up with victims, and report back in 21 days—with proof of refunds,” said Asige.
