KENYA: The transport sector in Kakamega has received a major boost from private investors who injected Sh30 million to upgrade a fleet operating in the county. The money, which has been used to buy 10 buses to ply routes in the region, is expected to restore sanity in the sector.
Some of the challenges faced in the sector include poor road network, which has seen people ‘declining’ to invest in the County’s transport sector. The joint move by private investor and Hino Toyota Kenya will also boost transport in the region. According to Edwin Mukabana, the Kenya Bus Services Managing Director who is also chairman of Mumias Shuttle Services, they will hire over 30 local people to operate the vehicles.
He said the venture will not only address transport challenges but will also boost economy of the county. “We have invested Sh30 million which will be used to boost the economy of the county through paying taxes and also offering employment opportunities,” said Mukabana.
