Eating strawberries can cut your cholesterol by nearly 14%, research reveals.
Scientists found adding them to the diets of 23 healthy volunteers significantly slashed the amount of “bad” cholesterol and triglyceride fat in their blood.
Levels of “good” cholesterol - high-density lipoprotein (HDL) - which has a healthy effect on arteries, were unchanged.
But they had to scoff 500g of the fruit – equivalent to two average-sized punnets – every day for a month.
Italian university researcher Maurizio Battino said the study showed the “protective role of strawberries” against the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
