After the conclusion of an intense Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season, the stage is set for the annual award ceremony to fete players and officials who have excelled.

This year’s event will be held next Wednesday at Safari Park Hotel.

Despite missing out on the league title, Gor Mahia have the highest number nominees for the award ceremony.

The club’s five players have been nominated for various awards together with coach  Zdravko Logarusic who will fight it out for the coach of the year award.

Gor players selected include team captain Jerim Onyango who has been nominated for the best goalkeeper award and will fight it out with Duncun Ochieng (Sofapaka), Martin Musalia (Mathare United), Robert Mandela (Western Stima) and Boniface Oluoch (Tusker).

Gor Mahia defender Ivan Anguyo will fight it out here Eugine Asike (Sofapaka), Jockins Atudo (Tusker), Johannes Nahimana (AFC Leopards) and Jackson Saleh (Western Stima).

In the best midfielder’s category, Gor Mahia’s Anthony Akumu leads the race and will have to outshine Bernard Mangoli (AFC Leopards), Francis Kahata (Thika United), Peter Opiyo (Tusker) and Paul Kiongora (KCB).

Influential Gor strikers Dan Sserunkuma and Rama Salim lead the pack for the best player’s category. They are pitted against John Keo (Oserian), Mike Barasa (AFC Leopards) and Paul Kiongora (KCB).

Other nominees: assistant referees: Jane Cherono,  Mike Mwangi, Gilbert Cheruiyot and Peter Kiereini. Referee of the year: Nasor Doka, Thomas Onyango, Damaris Kimani and Davies Omweno.
