The county government of West Pokot has unveiled a Sh200 million bursary scheme for needy students in secondary schools.
Handing over cheques from the kitty, Governor John Lonyangapuo said the programme would benefit more than 20,000 students.
The money will be sent directly to the beneficiaries' schools. Among the beneficiaries were Ortum High School, which has a population of 900 student and received Sh8 million, and Nasokol Girls, which received Sh5 million.
Prof Lonyangapuo said the bursary fund would be increased to Sh400 million next year.
