A five-year-old boy and 60-year-old man died while five other people sustained injuries after a speeding saloon car rammed into a crowd in Muraru market along the Embu-Kiritiri road, Embu County on Friday.
Collins Kivuti, 5, was pronounced dead on arrival at Embu Children Hospital, Tenri while Norman Njeru, 60, died on arrival at the Embu Level Five Hospital.
Mbeere South OCPD Ahmed Mohamed said those injured were rushed to the Embu Level Five Hospital where they are being treated.
Mohamed said the car was heading to Embu town from Kiritiri when its breaks failed, before the driver lost control of the car, veered off the road, ran over people before it landed on a ditch.
Witnesses said the driver of the car was speeding and lost control as he tried to swerve to avoid hitting a boda boda rider.

Muraru market is one of the largest muguka- a variety of khat- collection centres in the county.
ACK Diocese of Mbeere Bishop Rev Moses Masamba said some of the victims were travelling to attend a church convention at ACK Good Samaritan Church Nyangwa.
“We are saddened by the deaths. We appeal to drivers to adhere to traffic laws such us not speeding to avoid accidents on our roads,” said Rev Masamba.
