The Horticultural Crop Development Authority (HCDA) will promote tomato farming as a viable commercial venture to boost incomes of smallholder farmers, HCDA General Marketing Manager Anne Gikonyo has said.
Ms Gikonyo announced that the corporation was helping farmers to adapt to new farming methods like use of affordable green houses for maximum production.
She said HCDA was offering technical advice and creating platforms through which farmers can learn how to add value to the crop as well as securing markets to ensure they reap maximum benefits from its production.
She was speaking at Menengai High school in Nakuru when the authority hosted a one-day tomato production fair for farmers and other stakeholders from central Rift Valley.
