The Mercy Train has received an additional cash boost from Zain Kenya and Top Image.
Employees of Zain Kenya added over Sh200,000 to their earlier contribution of Sh1.5 million for the Tuungane Tuokoe Maisha initiative, while employees of Top Image donated over Sh100, 000.
Zain Kenya Director of Corporate Communication, Mr Michael Okwiri, said the company was responding to the pleas Kenyans.
"We noted the need for famine relief especially in view of what is happening and we encouraged our employees to donate," said Okwiri.
Speaking at The Standard offices, Okwiri said Zain Kenya was also supporting various community service projects as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Top Image Human Resource Manager, Mr Isaac Olima, said the employees decided to support the Mercy Train to save the lives.
Aid the hungry
He called on other Kenyans to donate whatever little they can in the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood.
The Standard Group Finance and Commercial Director, Mr Sarvjeet Channa, thanked the companies for the generous contributions, which would go along way in aiding hungry Kenyans.
Channa said the amount raised during the initiative was more than Sh30 million.
