At 12 years old, all Kenyans will be issued with identification cards, Immigration Minister Otieno Kajwang’ has said.
Mr Kajwang’ said this would help identify children during disasters like the recent fires in Nairobi and Molo.
He said biometric information like fingerprints of a person stabilise at 12.
He said Kenyans should stop associating IDs only with voting, night dances or buying alcohol.

Last year, the minister sparked controversy when he suggested that IDs be issued at 16.
Kajwang’ was speaking, yesterday, when he met Nubian elders at Nyayo House, Nairobi.
The Nubian leaders, led by Issa Abdul Faraj reported the difficulty they go through while pursuing identification papers.
