The county government owes contractors and suppliers more than Sh390 million.
Acting Finance and Planning Executive Davis Mwangoma and County Chief Officer Leonard Lang’at told Budget and Appropriation Committee on Tuesday that the pending bills had been verified by the Auditor General for payment.
The officials had appeared before the County Assembly to defend the 2019/20 budget estimates.
They were also taken to task to explain salary delays for the county staff and why the procurement of goods and service was slow.
Members of the County Assembly, however, noted that most departments had not factored the pending bills in the budget estimates.

Presidential order
Yesterday, the Executive could not confirm whether it would adhere to the presidential order issued on Madaraka Day to clear all pending bills.
“We will meet with the assembly to decide and draw up a plan of how much we are going to accommodate the bills as a county. Thereafter we will draw up a payment plan,” Mr Mwangoma told Assembly Speaker Meshack Maganga.
