Top contenders in the 2011 Car and General National Motocross Championship will be tearing around the track at Jamhuri Park from 9.30am this Sunday. This will be the third event in the series and competitors will be riding their powerful machines, hoping to improve their chances of winning in their respective championship classes.

The MX 1, MX 2 and MX 125 classes will be the main crowd pullers with the likes of Shivam Vinayak, Cruze Muigai and Ivan Guya roaring round the challenging track in a series of power slides, jumps and tear away bursts of speed along the short straights.

Vinayak heads the MX 1 class with Ken Anunda in second spot, followed by Charles Mugo. MX 2 leader, Muigai, is under threat from Tutu Maina and will have to work hard to maintain his lead.

The MX 50, MX 65 and MX 85 classes have attracted the majority of competitors. The youngsters, in their small bikes, will be cheered by their parents as they ride with great determination. The MX 65 class is the most closely contested category with only one point separating the leader David Murigi from challenger Rolf Kihara, followed by Owain Ashley.

Remain dry

Although heavy rains are expected in April, it the tracks are likely to remain dry and dusty for this weekend’s motocross event. Whether riders will be duelling in the dust, or sliding in slippery conditions, spectators are in for an action-packed day with prospects of wheel-to-wheel racing.

Throughout the day, spectators will be kept in touch with racing and results through a public address system.
