Timothy Cheruiyot came a distant fourth as Jacob Ingebrigsten set a new European and meeting record in the 1500m in 3:27.95 at the Oslo Diamond League in Norway on Thursday night.

Despite running a season best of 3:29.08, Cheruiyot was no match for the Norwegian athlete who had beaten the World 2-mile record just a few days earlier.

Running in front an incredible home crowd, Ingebrigsten led eight men who ran within 3 minutes and 30 seconds to become one of the fastest 1500m men's races of all time, and it will go down in history as one of the fastest of all time.

Spaniard Mohamed Katir came second in season best of 3:28.89 followed by American Nuguse Yared who timed a personal best of 3:29.02.

Elsewhere, Erriyon Knighton cruised to victory in the 200m after clocking a meeting record of 19.77, the American's season best so far in 2023.

The record was previously held by three-time Olympic champion in the 200m, Usain Bolt.

The reigning Olympic champion in the 200m, Andre de Grasse of Canada, finished in fifth with a 20.33.

Reynier Mena of Cuba was second at 20.09, with Knighton's U.S. teammate Joseph Fahnbulleh third at 20.23.
