The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) has shortlisted KTN News Sports anchor Moses Wakhisi for the 2020 AIPS Sport Media Awards.

AIPS shortlisted Wakhisi on Friday in the best Video Athlete Profile Shortlist category for his story World Marathon Record holder Eliud Kipchoge titled ‘The master story of Eliud Kipchoge’ and produced by KTN News, one of Standard Group PLC's brands.

Speaking to The Standard Sport, Wakhisi said he could not believe his story would touch and attract massive local and international audience and viewers.

“I am happy to be among the best storytellers nominated by AIPS. All this is as a result of hard work and the love for sports,” he said.

Wakhisi added that it is through support from Standard Group PLC and the entire KTN News Sports Desk that he was able to successfully tell the story of Kipchoge.

“I did not achieve this alone as we have a super collaborative team at the KTN News Sports desk that really helped in the production of this masterpiece and of course Standard Media for giving us the platform and support to do what we love, telling sports stories,” Wakhisi added.

Wakhisi is the only Kenyan and East African journalist in the Video Athlete Profile Shortlist category that has only three African journalists.

However, the job is not yet done as AIPS is set for the third, second and final voting stages by the AIPS Executive Committee and the 12 members of the Jury.

The journey continues in the next weeks with the lists subsequently narrowed to the Top 10 and then the Top 3 Finalists.

AIPS announced that the AIPS Sport Media Awards 2020 ceremony will take place on Monday, March 22.

In light of the ongoing global health crisis, the event will be held virtually as was agreed by the AIPS Executive Committee last November.

The eight senior categories in Photography (Action, Portfolio), Writing (Best Column, Best Colour Piece), Audio and Video (Short Feature, Athlete Profile, Documentary) offer a total sum of 104,000 US Dollars (US$, 8,000 per winner, US$, 3,000 for the second-placed and US$ 2,000 for the third-placed).

After the winners of the AIPS Sport Media Awards 2020 are announced on March 22, the Top 10 ranking for every continent will be released. Special certificates will be delivered to the best-rated works in each continent.
