County government has unveiled a statue in honour of the independence and multiparty crusader Masinde Muliro in Kitale town.
Governor Patrick Khaemba who unveiled the eight-foot bronze statue, at the Kitale Bus Park said the monument is to recognize and celebrate Muliro's political contribution to the country.
Muliro's remains were interred at his Sibanga farm in Cherang'any.
Born on June 30, 1922, Muliro is remembered as strict, no-nonsense and disciplinarian.
He collapsed and died at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on August 14, 1992, just months to the country's first multiparty elections after repealing of Section 2A.
Muliro was among seven Kenyans, who travelled to London in the early 1958 to press for the release of Jomo Kenyatta and five others.
Khaemba, who was accompanied by Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Sam Ojwang and Luhya elders, praised Muliro's courage saying the statue is to keep the memories of the political doyen alive.
Muliro's family led by Mwambu Mabonga and senatorial candidate Musoke Muliro graced the occasion.
