If you’ve ever got to the end of the day, looked at your still undone to-do list and wondered where time has gone, then you’re not alone. Many of us feel the same way too.

In order to get more done, you need to get better at managing your time. One way of doing this is by reducing the chances of wasting your time.

Below are ways you’re wasting your time during the day.

1. Watching TV

TV can be a welcome distraction especially if you’re unwinding at the end of a long day. However, if you watch TV just to pass the time when you’re bored, or you can’t think of anything else to do, you may be wasting your time.

Pick up some hobbies like reading a book or doing a DIY project that will keep you occupied during your free time and provide a nice change of activity.

2. Being disorganised

If you fail to plan you plan to fail. Starting your day without a gameplan can lead to wastage of time. So as not to keep running around, leaving half-done tasks in your wake, make a plan for each day. Write out what you want to accomplish, including a timestamp on when you’ll do each job and how long you’ll dedicate to it. Ensure you leave enough time for emergencies.

3. Procrastinating

It can be tempting to put off difficult or unpleasant tasks. However, this just leads to wasting time and forces you to reschedule them for a later date when you’ll be forced to work on them. Fight the urge to procrastinate by putting difficult tasks when you’re at your most productive and you’ll feel better when they’re complete.

4. Endlessly browsing social media

It’s very easy to get sucked into the world of social media. Scrolling through the various sites can make you waste time. To avoid endlessly browsing social media, allocate a specific amount of time when you can check your pages. Removing notifications and removing social media apps from your phone’s homepage can also help curb the temptation to scroll, scroll, scroll.

5. Multi-tasking

They say women are good at multi-tasking but this can be more disadvantageous than advantageous. Instead of trying to juggle multiple tasks at the same time, do one task at a time. This will help you finish each task in a timely manner and more thoroughly.

6. Having a cluttered environment

When your desk, bedroom, living room and/or kitchen make it harder to find things and you waste your time searching through the piles of stuff. Keeping your space organised to save up on those essential minutes which you can spend ticking something off your to-do list.

7. Failing to batch your work

Save time by batching similar tasks together. For instance, do your grocery shopping, pick up your online orders and get your hair done on the same day. Doing this will help you maintain focus and avoid multiple trips.
