The national government has supplied relief food to 2,850 families affected by floods in Rangwe and Karachuonyo constituencies.
Homa Bay County Commissioner David Kipkemei, Rangwe MP Lilian Gogo, her Karachuonyo counterpart Adipo Okuome, County Agriculture Executive Aguko Juma and Kochia MCA Ojala Nyang’i yesterday officiated distribution of relief food at various sites where the residents have camped.
The residents are camping at Odienya Secondary School and Nyarut Primary School in Rangwe constituency and Bala Primary School in Karachuonyo constituency.
The officials gave out 370 bags of rice, 200 bags of beans and 50 bales of uji mix.
"We also intend to bring maize and non-food items including blankets," Mr Kipkemei said.
Dr Gogo said both the national and county government should look for a permanent solution to control perennial floods in the area.
"Our people should not suffer from effects of floods every year. Time has come for all stakeholders to think of implementing permanent mitigation measures to cushion our people from this menace," Gogo said.
This came as residents demanded to know the whereabouts of Sh2 million which Governor Cyprian Awiti had promised the displaced families two weeks ago.
