ACK Garissa Diocese will from tomorrow have a new bishop.

The Rt Rev David Mutisya (pictured) will become the first bishop of ACK’s newest diocese. This brings to 38 the total number of dioceses in Kenya.

The ceremony which is to be held at St Peter’s Pro Cathedral in Garissa will be officiated by head of ACK Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit who will enthrone the new bishop.

Garissa has been a mission area under the All Saints Cathedral Diocese whose bishop is the Archbishop of Kenya. Lodwar Mission Area is also another mission area under the diocese.

Dr Mutisya has been the suffragan bishop in the diocese and became the automatic pick when the decision was finally made to make Garissa an autonomous diocese.

The decision to name him as bishop-elect was made on March 9 after the search committee interviewed him as the sole candidate.

Mutisya is among the five new bishops that take over this year; other diocese that are set to have new bishops include Maseno West Diocese where long serving Bishop Joseph Otieno Wasonga is set to retire. The elections will be held on May 18.

Mt Kenya South, Kitui and Southern Nyanza Dioceses will also have new bishops this year. During his earlier years, Bishop Mutisya was a vicar at St Paul’s Syongila Church Kitui Diocese.
