Nairobi, Narok, Isiolo, Samburu, Kajiado and Trans-Nzoia to get heavy rains until Tuesday next week.
The Meteorological Department has warned of a possibility of flash floods in six counties in the next few days.
Among those warned are residents of parts of the city that flooded following Tuesday's rainfall and other low-lying areas.
There is also a high possibility of flooding in Narok, Isiolo, Samburu, Kajiado and Trans-Nzoia counties.
According to the Meteorological Department, the flooding will only occur until Tuesday next week.
However, by the second week of May, the intensity of the rains will have reduced drastically in most areas in the country, it said.
“The forecast indicates that during the month of May, which marks the end of the season, the rainfall will be below the long-term average except for the western region and the coastal strip,” the department added.
“Analysis of the rainfall received and the expected rains for the remainder of the season indicate that most of the country will receive below average seasonal rainfall amounts,” said Stella Aura, the Meteorological Department director.
Several parts of Nairobi were flooded following a downpour on Tuesday afternoon.
Just hours earlier and in the preceding days, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko had posted on social media about the city’s efforts to prevent flooding by unclogging drainage systems in the 17 sub-counties.
“After unclogging we are carrying away the waste to Dandora dumping site. We are not leaving it by the road,” he stated, adding he had also put in place a rescue plan to help those who might need evacuation.
According to Elkanah Jacob, the deputy director of communications in Nairobi County, city residents need not worry, as the county has in place adequate measures to handle any flooding that may occur.
“The county government has been unclogging the drainage systems. It is now three months since we started this programme and it will continue even after the heavy rains,” said Mr Jacob.
