Three children were struck by lightning on Tuesday evening as they drove home their parent's herds from grazing fields.

The incident occurred at Nyarkulian area, Pokot South.

Pokot South Deputy County Commissioner Fredrick Kimanga said the two girls and a boy were taken to Kapenguria County referral hospital.

Still in the county, Sondany Tapach road was cut off after rain pounded the area on Monday night.

One of the residents from the area Lokwara Sukait said several animals have been reported after being struck by lightning. 

In Nyarpat Primary School, two classrooms were destroyed by wind," said Mr Kimanga. 

Lokwara Sukait, a resident, said: "Both the county and national governments should consider proper zoning and marking of lightening prone areas."
