A senator is pushing for county governments to honour their heroes and heroines.
Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has drafted the County Hall of Fame 2018 Bill that seeks to recognise exceptional individuals.
The Bill also intends to set up mechanisms for the preservation of historical documents and facts in each of the devolved regions.
“Through this Act, there shall be a Hall of Fame in each county as an avenue through which the county governments shall provide a framework for the preservation of the history, heritage and culture of counties,” reads the Bill, which is before the Senate awaiting its Second Reading.
Mr Murkomen said counties must appreciate outstanding citizens who were well known, respected, and admired for past achievements.
“The Bill creates a forum by which county governments can honour persons who may not necessarily be recognised at the national level but are heroes and heroines within their respective counties,” the senator stated.
The Bill further proposes that a selection committee shall be established to determine the individuals to be inducted in the Hall of Fame.
The committee will be composed of the clerk of the county assembly, the culture and heritage executive, the chair of the county public service board and two public officers nominated by the board. [Fred Kibor]
