With economic blocs becoming a strategy by counties to share and exploit common resources and opportunities, Nandi County is taking advantage of its location to benefit from two regional bodies.
Counties are allowed to enjoy membership of more than one regional blocs as they envisage to grow their economies and improve livelihoods.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang (pictured) said his administration was keen on enjoying the rich economic prospects in the eight-member North Rift Economic Bloc (Noreb) as well as the 14-member Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB).
Noreb had remained dormant for about two years after its launch in 2015 while LREB governors mooted its creation last year, with the two blocs now identifying their potentials as they harmonise legislations for friendly tariffs in trade within their borders.
They are also working round the clock to woe investors to maximise exploitation of key sectors, which will in turn transform the livelihoods of residents.
“As regions build strong ties for them to empower citizens, Nandi administration is taking advantage of our position to exploit key areas as members of Noreb and LREB because the law allows any county to join more than one economic bloc,” said Sang.
He said agriculture is the economic mainstay of Nandi, where residents enjoy fertile soils and favourable rainfall throughout the year.
