This year's top KCPE candidate is none other than Goldalyn Kadiya of St Anne Junior Lubao in Kakamega County. Kadiya scored a high of 455 marks, emerging top in the just released KCPE results.
And just like her name suggests, Goldalyne certainly clinched gold beating close to a million other candidates who sat for the exam.
Goldalyn is not an ordinary girl. She is a battling albinism, a congenital disorder in humans characterized by the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes. Not to mention the social stigma associated with albinism and a growing discrimination fueled by atrocities in Tanzania and worldwide.
Despite her condition, that did not stop her from working just as hard and fighting for the top spot in a prestigious national school.
During the release of the results, Education Cabinet Secretary categorically stated that in this year's results, 6 out of the top 100 candidates were from schools with special needs.
A total of 993, 718 candidates sat for the national exam this year, a number confirmed by Kenya National Examination Council Chair, Prof. George Magoha.
