  • Radio presenter Joe Muchiri has apologized over rape comments
  • The Hits Not Homework producer had insinuated Wanjiru Chenyiza be raped
  • His comments drew a backlash including from his employer

Sometimes it is a good idea to keep your mouth shut especially if you don’t have anything good to say. Not Joe Muchiri. He had to poke his nose and this time round he got bitten.

Not so long ago, he made a comment that a lady who did not vote for MTV EMA nominated artist Nyashinski should be raped with a cactus.

The lady in question is violinist Wanjiru Chenyiza who was of a different thought with regards to calls for voting for the Kenyan artist.

Commenting on a WhatsApp group named #ILove254Music she said that she would rather vote for Wizkid or South Africa’s Nasty C who’s music she appreciated more than Nyashinski’s.

After citing her opinion, it is then that the Hits Not Homework producer insinuated that she should be raped.

Undeterred by Joe’s crude remarks this is what she had to say thereafter.

‘’It not a patriotism thing…it’s either I like you or I don’t. Some of ya’ll have stacked albums by Beyoncé, Rihanna…but you wouldn’t buy an album for that person who sang in your vernacular language at your relative’s wedding and her album was like 500 bob while for Rihanna’s you went through the trouble of buying online, waiting like a month to have it shipped to your place. Gerarahia. Its preference guys…and that’s just it for me.” She wrote.

Titled to her point and a very valid point at that, Joe Muchiri bore the brunt for making such outrageous remarks and it did not sit well with Kenyans including his employer Capital FM who issued a statement via their social media platforms.

‘’We would like to make it abundantly clear that we do not support or condone gender based violence or any form of violence. We are therefore dealing with the matter with the seriousness it deserves.’’ The statement read in part.

Swimming against the tide, Joe Muchiri was forced to apologize to the violinist attributing his comments to a bout of anger he felt.

‘’I personally apologized to Miss Wanjiru Maina for what I said. I will say it also in a public forum. It was stupid of me&in bad taste.’’ He tweeted.
