Almost a 100,000 people in Isiolo are facing starvation, this is according to the National Drought Management Authority and Action Aid-Kenya report.

“These figures are as of March this year but the number might double come May this year if nothing is done and that’s why we are appealing upon the corporate society to offer help by partnering with government through their Corporate Social Responsibility program,”Peter Kilonzo,Project Coordinator, Action Aid –Kenya-Isiolo Office.


Kilonzo was speaking during food donation activity in Daaba Village in Isiolo county where Action Aid-Kenya had partnered with Techno mobile manufacturer.

TECNO Mobile Limited, the leading mobile phone brand, has donated Sh 2 million worth of food assistance to families affected in the County.

“We have today distributed 18 metric tons of maize and beans,1.3 metric tons of cooking oil,2 water tanks with capacity of 10,000 liters and also provided women with sanitary towels, “says Ray Hou,Marketing Manager-Techno-Kenya.

TECNO has pledge to donate $1 for every purchase of their new flagship phone Camon CX & CX Air.

“We have made it our goal that we shall support families in Isiolo, Samburu and Kajiado counties through our $ 1 donation program in the coming weeks. We have partner with Action Aid-Kenya to ensure that as an investor in Kenya we also try and offer solutions towards drought menace that was declared a national disaster by the government early this year. We call upon other corporates especially from China to pull their resources and try and help Kenyans who are facing starvation, “Ray says.

According to Kapiki Akirueni, a single of mother of six and Daada resident, they depend heavily on relief food.

“The food donation we receive today will last for a month and it will enable us have at least one meal per day,”Akirueni says.

The drought has ravaged most of the livestock in the county with families losing all most all of their animals.

“I have lost 40 camels, 300 goats, 100 cows and 20 donkeys, I have nothing left and I am calling upon the government to intervene and rescue our children from death,”Nadan Lokit, Daada Village Elder adds.

The number of Kenyans facing starvation currently stands at 2.7 million as per the government’s data.
