Mining Cabinet Secretary Dan Kazungu

The Government is looking for a consultant to draft a roadmap for the planned nationwide survey to establish the exact location of minerals.

Through the Ministry of Mining, the State wants the consultant to develop the terms of reference and specifications for the integrated airborne geophysical survey project whose implementation will be in phases.

“The ultimate goal is to gain knowledge on quantity and distribution of the country’s mineral resources so as to ensure their sustainable exploitation and utilisation in future,” said the ministry in an advert published in the dailies.

The consultant will also be expected to supervise, monitor and evaluate the work of the contractor who will be hired by the ministry. The mandate will also extend to ensuring that the project is executed in consistent with international best practices to make it cost-effective. The Government plans to spend about Sh6.1 billion ($60 million) on the survey.

The first phase is expected to cost Sh3 billion and targets the mining blocks at the Coast, Eastern and Western regions. According to Mining CS Dan Kazungu, the completion of the survey will help establish the type, quality and quantity of the country’s mineral resources so that investors can work on informed data.
