Two suspects who included a woman were Thursday morning shot dead in a bar after they had attacked a man and robbed him of a carton of cigarette in Dandora, Nairobi.
Police said they tracked the two with a third accomplice who managed to escape from the bar in Mowlem area. According to head of Special Crimes Prevention Unit Noah Katumo, the three were using a car when they attacked a motorcyclist and robbed him of the packets of cigarettes.
“The victim reported prompting a police search that ended up in a bar where the suspects had spread out the stolen cigarettes ready to sell. It was there that a shooting ensued that left two dead,” said Katumo.
He added a third suspect managed to escape and that they recovered three guns- two pistols and a homemade one with 18 bullets.
Katumo said the deceased woman had been mentioned in a series of robberies experienced in the area and that the cigarettes were returned to the owner after the recovery.
The incident increases the number of suspects so far killed by police in the past week alone to ten. Police say they have upped their war on armed crime in the city following increased trend.
Meanwhile, police are looking for a man who stabbed to death a 24-year-old man in an argument in Githogoro slums within Runda, Nairobi.
The deceased is said to have picked up a quarrel with a 17 year old man he had been staying with before he was stabbed in the chest and stomach and later pronounced dead on arrival in hospital in Kiambu.
Police say they are yet to know the motive of the murder and the hunt on the assailant is ongoing.
The killer weapon was recovered from the scene of the murder.
