Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu

KIAMBU: Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu is facing arrest after allegedly leading a group of youth in destroying private property worth millions in Ndiuni village Ndeiya, Limuru last Sunday.

Confirming the incident, Limuru OCPD Mohammed Bakuli said they had recorded statements from witnesses who were at the scene and are awaiting the final submissions so that they may initiate the process.

The land in question has been known to be a public land where residents have been proposing that a dam for water provision be constructed but documents from the Survey of Kenya indicate otherwise.
Waititu has since been summoned by police in Limuru to record a statement in connection with the incident.

According to area police boss Bakuli, investigations into the incident which saw hired goons allegedly led by the MP demolished perimeter wall built around a quarry are ongoing with all those whose names were mentioned being asked to record statements with a view of helping apprehending the actual culprits for prosecution.

Bakuli said the law must take its course and that all those implicated in the matter will be arraigned in a court of law.

Bakuli further cautioned area residents to desist from politicizing the matter. "This is a private property and I wonder why politicians are getting involved," he added.

Ndeiya MCA Nelson Munga condemned the incident, saying the "honourable member should have consulted widely before using goons" who might be arrested for breaking the law.

The MP who was accompanied by tens of hirelings invaded the private property at around 6:30pm under the pretext that it was being grabbed by a private developer.

Locals interviewed intimated that they formerly did not know that the land where the quarry is situated was a private property and that they have all along been using a dam to provide water to their livestock as well as irrigate their food crops.

They called upon the county government to consider purchasing the land from the owner for the use by the local community, noting that the same was very important to them since the area is a semi-arid area, which falls under the Ngubi escarpment.

Efforts to reach Waititu to get a comment from him on the matter were futile.
