University of Nairobi (UON) has entered into a partnership agreement with a local bank to promote the agriculture sector in the country.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the university and Equity Bank Foundation, which will see the two parties collaborate in various fields, was signed yesterday.

In the deal the Foundation is obligated to provide research opportunities for Masters and PhD Students and promoting the development and implementation of new innovations and technology at the university.
The university's Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi said they will jointly organize and run customized short term trainings with farmers who are supported by the foundation.

"Despite agriculture being the backbone of our economy, little support has been accorded to students and scholars in the sector. We are happy with the new partnership and we are sure it will have a positive impact in our economy," said Prof Mbithi.

The VC said the institution will assist with recruiting students  and in collaboration with the foundation  provide oversight in the particular fields of study  and research they choose to pursue.
