Twenty-two senior officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have been moved in a mini-reshuffle announced.

The changes saw DCI get a new head of operations. Former head of investigations at DCI headquarters Samuel Nyabengi was named the head of operations while Gideon Kibunja was promoted to be the Rift Valley coordinator to replace Scavier Mbogo who moved to Railways as the PCIO.

The fate of the current head of operations Mohamed Amin is not clear.

The changes were announced by police headquarters. Tom Omani is the new head of forensic department while Patrick Mugo will be the new head of inspections at police headquarters.

The changes also saw John Kariuki named the head of investigations at DCI headquarters and Paul Leiting named his deputy while John Koki will be the head of Serious Crimes Unit.

Bethwel Waweru is the head of DCI in Bomet, Henry Kiambati (Nakuru), Paul Mumo (Webuye), Douglas Chikanda (Kasarani), Valerian Obore (Tana Delta), Lazarus Kioko (anti-terror), Robert Onchiri (Kakamega region), Joseph Koskei (Nyanza), Jeremiah Ikiao (Buruburu), James Lelia (West Pokot), Jacob Kaberia (Mombasa CCIO office), Emily Wangari (Complaints) and David Wafula (Mombasa CCIO office).

More changes have been approved by the National Police Service Commission and are set to be announced next week, officials said.

The changes were announced amid reports they are part of realignments ahead of the general elections next year.

There are concerns even if the elections are more than a year away, police are not well prepared to handle the situation.
