A fire gutted offices of the Nyamira County Government in Keroka town on Christmas eve. One person is fighting for his life after part of his body was crushed by a vehicle which was being rescued from the scene of fire.

He was admitted to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where doctors are debating whether to amputate his lower limbs which were crushed by the lorry that was being towed away to avoid more damage.

According to Nyamira Police Coordinating Commander Mwarungu Mwandoe, documents and office property were destroyed in the inferno which locals suspect was started by arsonists.

"The fire started at about 11pm and efforts of by police and residents to put it out did not help much since it had spread within the offices," said Mr Mwandoe.
