Nanyuki, Kenya: Police in Nanyuki are looking for a man believed to have participated in the murder of his 25-year-old girlfriend.

This follows the discovery of the body of Caroline Muthoni, a former bar attendant, whose body was found dumped in Nanyuki River on Sunday morning.

The deceased worked in various bars within Jua Kali, Ichuga and Nanyuki.

Muthoni is believed to have been murdered elsewhere and her half-naked body dumped in the river.

Laikipia East Sub-County police boss Kipkoech Kirui said the body had marks on the face with blood oozing from her mouth, a clear indication that she may have been strangled to death.

"We believe she may have been killed elsewhere and her body dumped in the river. The body had scratch marks on the face and blood in the nostrils. We suspect she was strangled to death," said Kirui.

He added that the deceased may have been raped before being killed since some of her inner garments were missing.

"We have launched investigations and we are looking for a man who was her boyfriend.

We have information that the suspect called the deceased's parents and informed them that she was dead," said Kirui.

He noted that reports indicate the two had a troubled relationship.

The body of the deceased taken to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
