Kakamega, Kenya: A Form Four student in Kakamega was charged with being in possession of five rounds of ammunition by a Kakamega Principal magistrate's court Monday.

The student of Shanderema Secondary School, who is a minor according to the charge sheet, was found with the ammunition on September 18, 2015 with the intent to use them to commit crime.

The suspect, who appeared pensive as the charge was read to him, denied the charge saying that he has never seen ammunition in his entire lifetime,

"I was not found with the bullets and I have never seen bullets since I was born," he said, when taking plea.

He further pleaded with the court to consider releasing him on bond since he is a KCSE candidate.

The prosecution gave heed to his application saying that remanding him could cause trauma and affect his exam preparedness. However, he has to avail himself to police when needed.

Kakamega Chief Principal Magistrate Samuel Wahome released him on a bond of Sh100, 000 with instruction that he reports to the Criminal Investigation Department offices at Kakamega daily for one week as further probe into the matter is made.

The case will be mentioned on September 28, 2015.
