Kilifi, Kenya: A father’s demand for Sh25,000 to settle her daughter’s defilement case was thwarted when an assistant chief in Kilifi County rejected the plan.

Assistant Chief Patrick Masha of Mtondia sub-location in Tezo location opposed the plan when the man accompanied his daughter, who is a Standard Two pupil at Ngala Primary School, and the suspected defiler to his office for redress.

According to Masha, the man caught the culprit in the act in a forest.

The administrator said the man later asked his daughter and the suspect to accompany him to his office where he demanded to be given a fine of Sh25,000 to end the matter.

However, the chief declined the move and insisted that the girl be taken to hospital for check-up before the matter was reported to the police.

Efforts by The Standard to get a comment from the girl’s father were fruitless as he could not be reached through his mobile phone.

And area residents, led by the girl’s aunt, protested the attempt to settle the matter out of court and demanded police action and medical examination of the victim.

She disclosed that the girl left their home at Magorani area in Tezo at around 6am to go to school and was waylaid and caught by the suspect and dragged into a nearby forest.
