NAIROBI, KENYA: The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Tuesday declared three aspirants for the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) seats elected unopposed in Thursday’s annual election.
In a letter to LSK Chief Executive Officer Apollo Mboya, IEBC declared that Godfrey Nathan Kitiwa and Caroline Khasoa Wanyonyi had been duly elected to the position of member of up-country representative.
The electoral body said no poll would be conducted for the post.
“The election of up-country representative will not take place on February 6, pursuant to Section 14 of the Law Society of Kenya Act Chapter 18, in view Godfrey Kitiwa and Caroline Wanyonyi are hereby declared duly elected to the position,” read part of the letter signed by Returning Officer Florence Mogaka.
The poll agency also declared Kebira Ocharo duly elected to the position of disciplinary tribunal after it emerged he was the only candidate operating outside Nairobi.
POLLING STATIONS
The electoral body also released the list of 25 polling stations that will be used in the LSK polls, 10 of which will be in the capital.
The lawyers’ body elections have attracted three candidates, namely outgoing Chairman Eric Mutua, Charles Kanjama and Ambrose Weda, who are seeking the 2014/2016 term in office.
The position of vice-chairman will see Lillian Renee Omondi battle for re-election against Faith Waigwa.
The coveted Judicial Service Commission member position currently held by Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has also two former LSK chairmen Tom Ojienda, Okong’o Omogeni, and Nairobi lawyer Kaburu Ndegwa.
