NAIVASHA, KENYA: New statistics by the National authority for the campaign against drug abuse (NACADA) indicates that there over 2.2m Kenyans who are addicted to hard drugs.
According to the data thousands of others across the country are into drugs though not yet addicted with Coast region leading with over 200,000 serious cases.
While releasing the data, the authority chairman John Mututho said the Central Province was leading in consumption of second generation drinks.
"Laikipia and Nyandarua counties are leading in terms of consumption with Nakuru and Murang'a following closely,” he said.
The chairman said that the authority was committed to fighting drug and alcohol abuse by construction rehabilitation centres across the country.
Mututho said the centres will be used to reform alcoholic and hard drug addicts who are on the increase across the country.
Mututho noted that alcoholic addicts needed compassion as they sought treatment for activities they engage in.
