Former President Daniel arap Moi has mourned the death of Ezekiel Barng’etuny a prominent Kenyan politician and a respected opinion leader. Moi said he had learnt of Barngetuny’s death with shock and profound sense of loss.
“His death has shocked me. Barng’etuny, apart from being a respected leader, was a good friend to me,” Moi said.
Checkered career
He said the late Barng’etuny was his colleague and a friend of many years, besides being members of the same church, the African Inland Church.
Barngetuny, Moi said, would also be remembered for his checkered career as a soldier, politician, farmer and brave man. He said his contribution to education and Christian faith stand tall as his main hallmark. Moi recalled that the late Barng’etuny served in Second World War where he fought in the jungle of the Islands of Pangkor in Malaysia. Bargentuny also served as nominated MP and member of the Coffee Board of Kenya.
Vice President William has also send his message of condolence to the family of the late Barng’etuny. He said: “I condole with the family, relatives and friends of the late Mzee Barngetuny who was a great patriot.
Mzee Barnegtuny will especially be remembered by many in his community and the Kenyan society in general, who consulted and sought advice from him. He was a great mentor who inspired many young people especially those with political ambitions.”
Barng’etuny will be remembered most for his charm and antics during the famous Kimalel Goat Auction, which is making a comeback today after an 11-year absence.
His death is a set-back to the auction as his humour and skill would have probably fetched the goats higher prices.
