Kajiado County: Members of the giant Konza Ranching Co-operative Society on Monday rejected a proposal by the government to allocate 3,000 acres of the society’s land for a wildlife and cemetery project to boost the Konza Technocity.

At an annual general meeting, the 1,597 members led by their chairman David Mutangili told the government to keep off their land.

The members accused officials from the physical planning department of demarcating part of their land for the said project without their consent.

They accused Lands officials of carrying out a series of secret meetings in Machakos town with non-members to “approve” the excision.

The chairman said none of his management committee officials were notified of the purported meeting.

The members asked the government to respect the law, which provides total protection of every citizen’s property.

‘’We are told that some influential personalities in the government were behind the interference with the land and intended to grab it’’ said the members.

The meeting unanimously resolved that members who had been allocated land were to continue with their development plans.

They also resolved that no probe should be instituted by the society unless sanctioned by an annual general meeting.

The members also demanded that the few members who had been involved in disrupting the smooth running of the society be expelled from the register.

At the same time, the members accused the Office of the Commissioner of Co-operatives of being used by a few members to fight the management with the view of replacing the current leadership.
