Former Tourism Permanent Secretary Rebecca Nabutola and Tourism Board Managing Director Ochieng Ongong’a have been jailed for conspiracy to defraud the ministry of Sh8.9m.

Nabutola has been jailed for four years and fined Sh1m for abuse of office and failure to comply with procurement laws.

Ongong’a has been sentenced to three years in jail alongside a Sh500,000 fine for abuse of office and another Sh1m for fraud.

A board member Duncan Muriuki has also been jailed in relation fraud within the Tourism ministry, earning three years in prison and a fine of more than Sh17.8m.

They had earlier been charged in court over the irregular payment of Sh8.9 million to a tour company and abuse of office, which they denied and released on bail.
