After staying away from Muhoroni Youth bench for nearly five weeks, coach Alfred Imonje is back to the Kenyan Premier League side.
Imonje, who was allegedly suspended by the club’s management after differing on principles, said he will be meeting Muhoroni Youth management today to chart the way forward.
“Now that I’m back I hope to sit down with Muhoroni Youth management to straighten things that went wrong while I was away,” said Imonje.
“My first priority will be to spyche up the players, set a programmme of training and move forward,” he told FeverPitch in a telephone interview on Sunday.
Imonje, however said the team will have a one week break before resuming serious training ahead of the second leg of the Kenyan Premier League.
“We are not going to rest before we put everything in place and Muhoroni Youth will not be pushovers in the second leg of the league. Let teams be prepared for stiff opposition,” he warned.
“It is unfortunate that I had to be away when the team needed me most, but all is not lost, we sill have the second leg of the league to make amends for what we lost,” he said.
Imonje steered the KPL debutants to four wins, three draws and four losses. During his suspension, the team lost all their four fixtures.
Meanwhile, Muhoroni Youth striker Victor Amata is confident they will reach their target of finishing among the top eight clubs in KPL.
“We set our target of finishing among the eight best clubs in the league and with the return of coach Imonje, I believe we are going to achieve this,” said Amata.
At the same time, Muhoroni Youth chairman Moses Adagala said that despite operating under financial difficulties, he hopes his side will put a spirited fight to finish at a respectable position in the KPL this season.
He, however, thanked friends of Muhoroni Youth like Engineer Martin Owiti, Ochola Ogoda, Kisumu Mayor Sam Okelo, Dr Emmanuel Opati, Football Kenya Federation Nec Member Tom Alila and Muhoroni Sugar for their support.
“Our club has been surviving on the support of friends. Now we are happy that with the efforts of coach Imonje and other friends of the club, a new sponsor, which we shall soon name, will be coming on board,” said Adagala.
At the same time, Muhoroni Youth fans led by Andrew Matoka asked those criticising the club to be patient.
“I urge all our fans to be patient. Being a new club in top flight football, we should expect many teething problems,” said Matoka.
