Basco Paints is venturing into an eco-friendly range of products, as environmental conservation gains traction and construction of environmentally friendly structures take a centre stage in the booming building sector.
First in the market, the new paint is said to have low levels of chemicals that readily evaporates into the reducing carbon emission from paint fumes significantly. The company also hopes to tap into the booming construction industry.
"We are pleased to bring to East Africa a value addition to the built environment. In-line with our long-term strategy, the green paints will help construction industry achieve the green economy dream," said Basco Paints Managing Director, Kamlesh Shah.
The volatile chemicals commonly found in ordinary paints can result in seen side effects of paint fumes including eye and respiratory irritation, headache, dizziness and memory problems when absorbed in significant amounts.
Shah said the new eco-friendly paint complies to the strict European Union volatile organic compound guidelines set in 2007.
The announcement comes as the world moves towards reduction of emission of harmful gases to the atmosphere.
