What comes to mind when you hear the word 'Afrochic'? A hairstyle, way of dressing or fashion I would believe.
The word is heavily associated with fashion, but this is also the name of a hotel you might want to consider for a honeymoon escapade.
Located on the Kenyan South Coast of Diani, one can get there via the Likoni ferry if travelling by road, or via the Diani Airstrip where daily flights are available.
Just three kilometres from the airstrip along a rather dusty road is a gate with the words ‘Afrochic’ artistically inscribed on it. One would easily think this is a second row beach property.
Afrochic Hotel, part of Elewana Group of Hotels, is a small facility with only ten rooms. The facility was built with privacy in mind as it can only accommodate 20 people at a time.
The rooms all have a balcony facing the ocean and the dÈcor theme changes from room to room. I was spending the night in Samba, a room depicting an African savannah along with its wildlife.
As we walked to the other side of the hotel where a swimming pool complete with lounge beds beckoned at us, we heard the ocean waves rise. The view of the ocean from here is fantastic.
Lunch was served by the poolside, close enough to the ocean, with the trees offering shade. All the food was prepared on order.
After lunch one can take a nap on one of the many hammocks outside.
Apart from being a perfect spot for a secluded honeymoon, Afrochic also offers wedding packages. One British couple we encountered had just settled on the hotel for their wedding venue.
