Uasin Gishu County

Two people among them a brother to a 56-year-old teacher murdered in Eldoret have been arrested.

The police are interrogating the suspects over the killing of the Moi Girls’ High School teacher, whose decomposing body was discovered in her staff quarters at the institution.

Uasin Gishu deputy OCPD Benjamin Onsongo said they were holding the two and said they would face murder charges once investigation was concluded.

Mr Onsongo said one suspect was nabbed in Kericho while the second, a brother to the deceased, was arrested within Eldoret.

"We are heading to a breakthrough in our investigation and the two will be arraigned in court to face murder charges," said Onsongo yesterday.

The body of the teacher, Esther Kemboi, was found covered under a blanket in her bedroom at her house, which was locked.

Went missing

The recovery was made after the teacher went missing from duty and home for several days.

The deceased was reported to have been residing in the school with her 25-year-old brother and her brother’s friend before her body was discovered in the house.

Moi Girls is a National School located in Eldoret and is reputed for exemplary performance in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) national exams.

At the same time, police in Eldoret are investigating claims that a pastor impregnated a 15-year-old girl.

Onsongo said the teenager had reported him to the police station. He however, said the pastor presented himself to police and accused the girl’s relatives of assaulting him.

Onsongo said the pastor was issued with a P 3 form and police would investigate the two cases.

And in a separate incident, a man is nursing a bullet wound under tight security after he was shot for ignoring police orders to stop.

Police said officers on patrol saw the suspect carrying a TV set and a video decoder around Baharini at around 4am yesterday.

When he was ordered to stop, he dropped the items and started fleeing, prompting the officers to shoot him.
