Special Programmes minister Naomi Shaban reckons that the report by Kenya National Commission on Human rights on the stealing of millions of shillings meant for IDPs actually got the information from a Kenya Anti Corruption Commission report after she called in the anti-graft body to investigate the loss of funds. You miss the point. Madam. The issue is not who blew the whistle, but rather how millions of shillings meant for the displaced disappeared under her watch.

The mobile phone brought about a communication revolution that has made our lives much easier and enjoyable. Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o is on the spot for appointing one Olang’o Onudi as the new director of Kenya Medical Training College although he was not even on the short-list. No doubt Onudi could be qualified for the job, but the coincidences of ministers appointing people from their own geographic regions is glaring. The good professor of political science would do well to temper political considerations with the science of executive placements.

A website for prisoners seeking penpals has this guy who says he is serving time for killing his wife — accidentally, he says — and wants to correspond with women between ages 30 and 50, but they must be people who appreciate humour, enjoy life to its fullness and are ready for a serious relationship. Any takers?

And finally...
Apart from unfinished stadia and final touches here and there, South African authorities have a lot to fix before next year’s World Cup. News of match-fixing in their premier league months before the greatest sports event kicks off may not disqualify them, but it is surely an own goal by one of the continent’s leading teams.
