Once upon a time Hippo and Fire were good friends. They visited and helped each other every day.

One day, Hippo invited Fire to attend a party. Fire was happy to be invited and waited anxiously for the day of the party. He lived a kilometre away from Hippo. When the party day finally arrived, Fire set off at dawn.

As he arrived at the Hippo’s compound he was met by the rich aroma of good cooking.

Hippo welcomed him with both arms and they sat down. But Fire could hardly withstand the aroma, it made him hungrier and his mouth watered. But he forced himself to wait.

And then the aroma in the house increased. Fire could not hold his hunger or control his appetite any longer. After hours of waiting and no sign of food being served, Fire decided to go home.

Hippo did not stop him from going. Fire went out, but before he started the journey back to his house, he peeped and saw Hippo and his family chewing chunks of delicious meat.

That night, Fire slept hungry. After a few days Hippo visited him. Because Fire’s body was very hot, Hippo sat near the door.

Fire moved far and told Hippo to come deeper into the house.

When Hippo was in the middle of the house, Fire closed the door and came very close to Hippo. Hippo’s skin got very hot and the pain made him scream.

Fire had no mercy for his selfish friend, so he moved even closer to him. Fortunately Hippo managed to run out of the house.

He ran into the nearest pond to cool his burnt body. Since then Hippo’s skin is rough because of the burns and he fears spending long time on land.
