A former convict was lynched after he allegedly raped and killed a granny in Kiambu District.

The man, who had been released after serving a five-year jail term for rape, was flushed out of his house in Githunguri and killed.

Police and witnesses said the man attacked the 75-year-old woman on Saturday and raped her before hitting her on the head. The woman died while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Kiambu OCPD Jay Munyambu said villagers attacked the former convict soon after they received news of the woman’s death.

Meanwhile, an official of an NGO was killed by a gang near his residence in Kabete, Nairobi. Police said the victim might have resisted the gang’s approach. He was shot in his car.

The thugs did not steal anything and instead drove off, leaving his body at the scene. Police said the same gang had earlier shot and wounded another motorist in Kawangware estate, Nairobi.

The motorist was shot in the neck, but drove to Kabete Police Station, where he reported the incident.

Motorists on Nairobi’s Waiyaki Way had reported being attacked by the thugs in a Toyota RAV4 car. Gigiri OCPD David Kerina said they were investigating the matter.

"It seems the thugs wanted to send some message, but we are investigating to know if the attacks could have been normal," he said.

Police also said they shot dead two suspected thugs in Riruta, Nairobi, and recovered two guns.

At the same time, two employees of a security firm were arrested in connection with the disappearance of more than Sh2 million from a cash dispenser in Kitengela Township.

They were arrested with the money. One is alleged to have had codes to open the machine, police said.

They are expected in court this week.

Thugs also raided an ATM machine in Molo and escaped with Sh3 million. Three suspects are in custody.
