A sports apparel manufacturer, adidas, through adidassler–Sund, has unveiled a project to nurture talent at homes for the destitute in Kwale District.
An adidas volunteer from Gemany, Yaw Heiser, yesterday said the programme involves upgrading sports facilities and conducting clinics for young people.
Tsimba Home for the Orphanage in Vuga location, Matuga division, caters for needy and orphaned children.
The home benefited from sports tutorials by adidas experts who visited it last week.
A model football pitch and a basketball court have been set up at the home, courtesy of adidas. The company has also donated several goalposts to communities in the area and organised football tournaments for youth.
"We have started with this orphanage, but also work closely with youths in the community in a bid to explore talent among the youth,’’ he said.
Heiser, a Ghanaian, played for SG Wallus in the German Fourth Division League between 1999 and 2000.
Denis David, 14, who plays for Rising Star, said they were highly motivated by adidas’ gesture.
"We have been encouraged by adidas and gained new football skills. For us, the sky is the limit and we shall aim higher,’’ the youngster said.
