Raila warns Siaya MCAs amid break-up call

The Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga has warned Siaya MCAs against an alleged sabotage of the Executive.

Raila, who was speaking at Awello grounds in Alego-Usonga Constituency on Saturday where he led in the launch of the ODM membership registration drive, urged the MCAs to desist from ‘chaotic scenes’ which he said were tarnishing the party’s image.

Raila asked the elected leaders to shelve their political ambitions and deliver services to their constituents.“ The 2022 elections are over, and we must give time to those elected to deliver instead of engaging in premature campaigns,” he said.

Accompanied by governors James Orengo (Siaya) and Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu), he told the lawmakers to give Orengo time to work for the people of Siaya.

Also present during the event was Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, Roots Party leader George Wajackoya, MPs Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), James Nyikal (Seme), Samuel Atandi (Alego-Usonga), Otiende Amollo (Rarieda), Christine Ombaka (Siaya Woman Representative) and Siaya County Assembly Speaker George Okode.

This comes amid claims there is a growing stalemate between Governor Orengo and the Assembly.

Two weeks ago, human rights groups in Siaya called on the President to dissolve the county government over exceptional matters of poor governance and service delivery.

The Siaya County Civil Society Network said the President could dissolve the Governor James Orengo-led administration by invoking the Constitution.

The group said the continuous fight between the Executive and the assembly over the control of budgets and tenders was affecting good governance, accountability and adherence to the constitution.

The group alleged that at least four members of the executive have been lined up for impeachment, including the CEC for Finance.

“The impeachment of the CEC Finance, who is the head of the county treasury, would mean that the county grounds to a halt,” read the statement.

But Okode dismissed the claims, saying he had not received any impeachment motion from members or the public.
